After due diligence and in keeping with the mission and bylaws of Urban CPE Consortium, Inc., the Board of Directors has determined that Advocate Aurora Health is a good mission fit with whom to entrust the funds, programs, and intellectual property of Urban CPE Consortium upon its dissolution as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization on May 19, 2022. Urban CPE is going full circle. Urban CPE was founded and nurtured in the beginning years by Advocate Health. Urban CPE Consortium, Inc. emerged out of the Association of Chicago Theological Schools (ACTS) Urban CPE, itself an outgrowth of the Center for Public Ministry (CFPM) in 1991. Supervisor Frances McWilliams, a group facilitator in the CFPM and an ACPE Supervisor at what is now Advocate Christ Hospital, began offering CPE at Christ Hospital, under the ACPE certification of the Evangelical Health System, a predecessor of Advocate Health Care.
Urban CPE has had several reiterations since 1991 leading to the formation of Urban CPE as a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization in 2015 under the leadership of Sr. Barbara Sheehan. Urban CPE continues to be recognized as an innovation leader in the field of clinical pastoral education. The Board of Directors of Urban CPE Consortium strongly believes that the Urban CPE mission is essential and will be continued and nurtured under the auspices of Advocate Aurora Health. Advocate Aurora Health will offer urban community-based Clinical Pastoral Education programs with a social justice focus. Click for more information.
